Breast reconstruction after breast cancer
Breast cancer affects one out of eight women. In most cases, the tumor can be treated with partial mastectomy. If the tumor is found in several locations in the breast or if it is larger than breast size, the treatment is a mastectomy.
Mastectomy can also be used as a preventive treatment in women with a high risk of breast cancer.
The breast is an inseparable part of a woman’s identity and breast reconstruction is an inseparable part of breast cancer treatment.
Breast reconstruction can be performed immediately in certain cases (in the same surgery) or secondary (later).
It is possible to perform breast reconstruction by using silicone implants or by using autologous tissue (tissue from the back/abdomen or self-fat).
